Introducing Zin, a browser for the self-contained, immutable, Bitcoin Internet. On Zin, web pages are recursive inscriptions, and URLs are SNS names. A new internet, where all data lives on Bitcoin, is ready to be realized.

Why the current internet is broken

In contrast, these are the principles behind Zin

All data lives on Bitcoin

No centralized chokepoints like servers. No complex data storage blockchains with tokens. No overlords like ICANN. No flimsy platforms. All data is on Bitcoin, and that means it is replicated on many Bitcoin nodes, accessible everywhere, forever.

Open access. Neutral standard.

No proprietary software or standards. No privileged access. No governance. No perverse incentives. Zin is built on open-source, neutral software and formats. Once published, your data can never be edited, deleted, or censored.

Pay once. Publish forever.

No recurring fees. No platform risk. No shady data harvesting. With Zin, you pay once to save your data forever.

How does Zin work?

This page is an example—you’re likely reading this in the Zin browser.

The HTML for this page is stored on Bitcoin. 140,000 similar pages have already been inscribed. Most are simple web pages, but complex web applications can be inscribed.

The “URL” (hellozin.sats) is also stored on Bitcoin. 1.7 million similar SNS names have already been inscribed. You can "point" any SNS name to another inscription, making it act like a URL. This linkage is self-contained on Bitcoin and is uncensorable and decentralized.

To publish the HTML and the SNS name took two Bitcoin transactions and cost about 0.0002 BTC (about $6 USD at the time) to publish forever.

What do you need to publish with Zen?

No hardware, no custom RPCs, no weird plugins. Zin is dead simple. You just need a few dollars of Bitcoin, a Bitcoin wallet, any inscription services, and some HTML. That is all you need to publish for eternity.

We should note that all the “superpowers” listed above are properties of Bitcoin, Ordinals, and the SNS standard—Zin simply combines these systems in a helpful way. Our goal is to make publishing, sharing, and discovery on the Bitcoin internet very easy.

We’ll share more soon. See you on the Bitweb. ✌️
